Michele's Story
My involvement in LifeSPAN began a few years ago when my mom and
stepfather, Kathy and Bill Sellars, invited me to the first planning
meeting for "some type of organization" like PLAN™ that they hoped
to create in Washington State. At the time, LifeSPAN was just a
glimmer in a few people's eyes. I attended several more meetings and
provided the planning board with draft incorporation documents based
on my experience with other non-profits.
My first major involvement began when my parents established my
sister Kari's
Network. I'm delighted to be a part of her network and to know
that my brother and I will not be alone when our parents are no
longer available to assist her. (In addition, I've just enjoyed
getting to know everyone on the Network and experience Kari through
their eyes.)
In January, 2004 I launched the LifeSPAN website. It took us a
little while to reach agreement on how we would do it, but finally,
the Board was ready to take the plunge. I've tried to make the
website as easy to use and maintain as possible since it's a labor
of love. If I were doing it at my usual professional rate, it would
have cost thousands of dollars to date. I'm very happy that my skills and a
little volunteer time can help LifeSPAN grow and fulfill its
mission.
